When is the best time to post on social media?

It can be hard to know when is the best time to post on social media.

People are on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest throughout the day and night when they are likely to see and engage with your content can vary between demographics.

This is why we’ve created a quick guide to let you know roughly what the optimal time to post is for each platform.

We recommend using this as a starting point then adjusting the times as these platforms collect more information about your audience.

The best times to post on Facebook.

The best times to post on Facebook are between 1pm and 4pm later in the week, like Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. As a general rule, don’t post after 6pm on Fridays however. Facebook users tend to use the app quite a lot during the day so there aren’t that many strict guidelines around the best times to post but consider when people tend to be on their phones — early mornings, lunch times, and after dinner. On Fridays and Saturdays people are busy socialising. On Sunday evenings, though, people tend to be back on their phones after a family dinners so don’t be afraid to experiment.

The best times to post on Twitter.

The most ephemeral of social media platforms, and the one with the lowest uptake among everyday Australians, the best time to post on Twitter is between 12pm and 3pm during the work week. Anything up to 5pm also counts as users tend to be on Twitter during their work day. There’s an audience of Twitter power users that are online just about all the time but they’re unlikely to be your target audience unless you’re a broad consumer social brand with a slightly controversial social strategy like Ryanair.

The best times to post on Instagram.

Like Facebook, the best time to post on Instagram is when people are on their phones. As a general rule, people like to see their aspirational social media content just before the start of the work week so consider scheduling your posts between 8am and 9am on Monday mornings. Then consider a similar posting schedule to Facebook: when people are on their phones at the start, the middle, and the end of the day.

The best times to post on Pinterest.

An archival visual search app more than a social media platform, strictly, Pinterest is less algorithm-driven than Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Pinterest users are most active on Saturday nights, planning their houses, holidays, and weddings in aesthestic, aspirational boards.
