From our interns: Charlie’s experience

While studying a Bachelor of Journalism, I’ve always sought to develop and expand my experience within the media industry in any way possible. So when I saw an ad for the Adoni Media internship in the midst of semester two assessment, I applied straight away.

After previously attending a lecture at QUT hosted by Leisa Goddard, hearing about her vast experience in the media industry both as a reporter and PR professional, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity.

While I already had a fairly broad range of skills and experience during my two years of university, Leisa and the rest of the Adoni Media team taught me more than I could have ever imagined.

Exploring the different areas of PR

I’m sure I’m not the only one to have found myself twiddling thumbs as an intern, racking my brain trying to think of what to do next. Luckily, I never once found myself in that situation at Adoni Media. There was always something else to do, something else to explore, something else to learn.

I’ve always had a passion for content creation in its various forms, particularly when it’s distributed via social media. This passion was utilised at Adoni Media when creating infographic tiles, social media plans, media releases, and client internal and external articles. Though, I was told regularly to work at my own pace and not feel pressured, which meant I was able to ensure my work was quality. The ongoing feedback I received throughout the internship increased my confidence in contrasting yet crucial areas.

My most memorable experience was being able to experience a client meeting. Witnessing the group discussion allowed me to thoroughly understand the language used during the exchanging of ideas when it comes to delegating tasks and applying marketing strategies. I learnt the significance of clear communication, strategy implementation, and work-related reliability.

Most of my professional knowledge comes from a news background, so it was invaluable to learn the different practices of a PR firm.

    Part of the team

From the first day of the internship to my last, I always felt part of the award-winning, well-established team.

Adoni Media taught me the importance of balancing individual work with group discussion, to streamline processes and ensure the final product is a high standard.

On multiple occasions I was asked what I was working on by different staff members, all of whom had helpful tips.

There have been times in previous internships where I’ve felt as if my supervisors were too busy to answer questions, but this was never the case at Adoni. No matter how busy it got (and it did beyond belief), everyone was always happy to give advice on whatever work or non-work-related issue I was facing.

I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am for the experience, and strongly encourage everyone studying any area of the media to get involved.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to ALL the members of Adoni Media for making my time so enjoyable.
