From our interns: Paige’s experience

When I began my Bachelor of Business and Journalism at The University of Queensland, I knew that real-world experience would be the true test of everything I’d learned in lectures and tutorials. I was eager to move beyond textbooks and academic theory, and to immerse myself in the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of public relations. I wanted to see how writing, marketing, and public relations worked beyond the theory, and I couldn’t have found a better environment to do that than at Adoni Media.

This internship has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my degree so far. Applying my learning in a professional setting didn’t just strengthen my skills; it completely deepened my appreciation for campaign management, writing, and media strategy. I’ve come to understand how much planning and precision sit behind every story that makes it to television, radio, or print. What you see in the headlines is really the final act of a much bigger, more intricate performance. Something that only becomes clear when working alongside one of the best public relations agency’s.

    The Benefits of Hands-On Experience

It also gave me a real insight into what working in a public relations agency actually looks like day to day. I saw how the team juggles multiple clients, meets tight deadlines, and adapts quickly when news or opportunities arise. It made everything I’d learned at university feel more tangible, and showed me just how varied and fast-paced a career in PR can be.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to write media alerts, contribute to video news release, sit in on client meetings, draft blog content and campaign reports, and witness first-hand how campaigns are developed from the ground up. Every day brought something new, a lesson, a challenge, or an insight that no classroom could replicate.

    Culture and Mentorship

What truly set this internship apart, however, was the team. From day one, Adoni made me feel welcome and valued.  They have a fantastic balance between independence and guidance, happy to throw me into the deep end, but never too far from a helping hand (or a laugh). Each person I worked alongside was generous with their time, patient with my questions, and genuinely invested in helping me grow.

It’s rare to find a workplace that so successfully combines high performance with a genuine investment in growth and mentorship. The culture at Adoni reflects the values of great leadership and a clear commitment to developing the next generation of PR professionals. As an intern at Adoni Media, I felt lucky to be learning from some of the best in the industry.

As I wrap up my internship, I’m stepping forward with a renewed sense of confidence, clarity, and enthusiasm about my future career in public relations. The lessons I’ve learned, the mentorship I’ve received, and the experiences I’ve gained here have been invaluable.

Lesia Goddard and the entire Adoni team have shown me what great PR truly looks like, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this team. If this is what the beginning of a career in PR looks like, I couldn’t be more excited for what comes next.
