Learning that risk is about courage

Learning that risk is about courage

Empowerment was the biggest emotion I felt after leaving the Zonta International Women’s Day Breakfast this morning.

My Managing Director, Leisa Goddard, was the event’s guest speaker. I work at Adoni Media as Marketing Coordinator.

As a young woman in the early stages of a professional career, it meant a lot to hear my boss, Leisa, say that you are most courageous when you draw strength in your vulnerability.

Vulnerability is something many graduates (men and women) feel A LOT when they enter the workforce. The security blanket of university has left you, and it’s all on YOU to overcome the challenges along the way.

Leisa has done what many people haven’t. Reporting in the middle of natural disasters, at red carpet events, even under enemy rocket attack in the middle of the Afghanistan War.

That all came down to her courage. None of it was easy, and it wasn’t supposed to be.

Which is why I continue to challenge myself every day.

As a young working woman, I’m still learning not to say sorry when I am not able to do something I’m asked. I am still learning to become centred and focused during stressful times. I am still learning to take risks even when I feel most vulnerable.

Like Eleanor Roosevelt says: “Women are like tea bags. You don’t know how strong the are until they are in hot water”.

Every day is something different, but working with the Adoni Media team (some of them below) teaches me that we can all do amazing things. It was a great pleasure to attend the Zonta International Women’s Day Breakfast.
